Friday's Japanese Improv

Last night I had a bit of fun with Japanese-inspired dishes:

  1. Carrot threads marinated with salt, ginger, lime juice, mirin, and sesame oil.
  2. Diced daikon simmered in soy and sake.
  3. Deep-fried tofu braised in a dark miso/lemon sauce.
  4. Chopped lettuce simmered with soy and mirin.
  5. Diced beets, caramelized, cooked briefly with soy, ginger, and mirin, and then tossed with lime juice.
  6. Surimi
We ate these arranged pseudo-decoratively around a mound of rice; and it was gooooooood.
